It all began years ago at a bus stop during one of our infamous St. Louis winters. As a young Eric Greitens sat amongst friends in the bitter cold awaiting the school bus, his outstanding leadership and problem solving characteristics became profoundly evident as
he devised the perfect plan to keep warm. Each day,
he and his friends would huddle around a pile of leaves that Greitens had carefully set ablaze; however, when he noticed his mother driving by one morning, he panicked, kicking the leaves into the sewer in an attempt to put out the fire. Unfortunately, they landed
on top of another large pile of dry leaves and, as expected, the fire quickly spread...and spread... and spread. The outcomeis irrelevant when compared to
the one thing that rose high above the smoke—Eric Greitens was a natural born leader...
